Nothing Ever Happens

January 7, 2012

There’s a song by the group Del Amitri called “Nothing Ever Happens.

“Gentlemen time please, you know we can’t serve anymore
Now the traffic lights change to stop, when there’s nothing to go
And by five o’clock everything’s dead
And every third car is a cab
And ignorant people sleep in their beds
Like the doped white mice in the college lab

Nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all
The needle returns to the start of the song
And we all sing along like before
And we’ll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow”

There are days so ordinary that it seems nothing happens. Days it’s easy to stretch into weeks then into months. In order to keep moving forward it means striving to get sign ups and getting in motion!

Garden catalogs, hatchery websites, new additions, renewal all take up time alongside ordinary tasks. Feeding, cleaning, rearranging, planning, promoting, designing…the days go quickly yet are long! It’s worth it to get to where we want to be. A spot of land allows more than just growing food for others – it allows growing food for ourselves. It allows doing what we want to do and are doing anyway, but a chance to help others with food choices as well. The challenges are many – but we’re looking forward to the challenges this year.
