Cover Crops at Organic Field Day

July 27, 2012

The reasons for using cover crops are many, and with limited space it’s a different perspective than an acre or 100 acres or more. Cover crops increase organic matter, improves soils and can reduce erosion. It may also improve soil fertility, reduce weeds, and many other uses, but it isn’t a cash crop, so farmers using it grow just to kill it for the soil.
There may be other reasons/options. We’d like to grow some extra ‘waste area’ crops that might provide forage for the rabbits, for example in areas that may not get enough sun for other crops.

More traditionally, here’s a couple of clips from experts talking about cover crops.
