What Is Your Guilty Pleasure?

March 14, 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe all have those things that bring comfort, and sometimes it’s things that we don’t admit to others until pressed.

Some might be classic television show marathons, or rocky road ice cream or romance novels. Recently I got a sample of a new-to-me could be guilty pleasure. Yes, I sometimes get free gifts to try out – some work really well, others not so much. So recently one of these was a Peanut Honey Pretzel bar from Luna.

Oh. My Gosh. It’s not quite a rice crispy bar, not quite a pretzel, not quite butterscotch but all of these, and is 70% organic to boot. No dishonesty – it’s 190 calories, offers up 18% of the daily protein as well as vitamins and is much tastier than vitamin supplements. An inner voice – and Connor’s –  said it’s a candy bar, and that it is.

Of course when you can make oatmeal cookies or peanut butter cookies a healthy treat, why not occasionally indulge? Luna offers something that has more benefit than a typical candy bar, but is convenient and tasty. I don’t envision eating large amounts of them with the illusion they’re total nutrition, but given a choice between them and something not so good, it’s a clear choice! There’s a variety of tastes as well!

Other guilty pleasures – I admit a weakness for German chocolate cake, ice cream and have watched General Hospital for more years than I am willing to admit. (I even at one time went to a GH event with a Richard Simmons workout – ok that pretty much dates some of it!) I also enjoy watching some shows with Connor – Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville, White Collar and Royal Pains. We don’t have television reception so catch our favorite shows online or DVD.

While we strive for simplicity, and look at making things better day by day, it’s good to have a little mini retreat with a guilty pleasure now and then. These Luna bars…I think they’re added to the line-up!

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure? Or more than one if you want!
