Can You Look Into The Future?

July 26, 2013

Sometimes it takes just slowing down, taking a few minutes to look at where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re going. Are we still on the right road? Do we need to refuel? Do we need a better map, or a break to stretch and break things up? Sometimes! But it doesn’t stop the focus on where we’re going.

As we work towards where we want to be, sometimes things are uncertain. Sometimes very uncertain. Sometimes there’s something that doesn’t work out or needs changed, there’s funds that don’t come through as promised, there’s professionals who are anything but professional in their dealings, which affects us greatly. Do we give up? No!

There will be a day when a group of people are gathered around a corral to learn business lessons for a clinic. Or a dozen people sit around a campfire, voices muffled in the dark recounting what they learned and the beautiful way things blend together when it all works right.

There’s cattle, a few horses, a variety of poultry and of course rabbits. Others may go to the library and read up on herbs or learn about heritage livestock, or get lost in their thoughts on the covered deck, or journal to capture a piece of *this* before going back to ‘the real world.’

We harvest, collect eggs, arrange for livestock to make the short trip to the processor, organize delivery trips to Nashville and look at the schedule for upcoming conferences. It’s busy but a good life.

I don’t know if it will actually happen next month to start or if it will get delayed again. I don’t know if it will take 2 years or 5 years but I know it will happen. A lot needs to happen for that to become reality, and it depends heavily on promises, investments, sales, bookings, interest – people! And people are imperfect, so sometimes it means not on our time table but others.

We can continue or give up. But giving up is not an option!
