The Moments That Shape Us
I think of a family friend, Wayne, and his family. While my dad planned, saved and worked towards a trip to Alaska, others lived through the stories we told. They were going to go do it someday. Only by the time someday came his health wasn’t allowing such trips. Literally, life passed them by.
We’ve relied on promises to go forward, a few weeks, a month, next week – and a year later are still waiting. A year lost! When we get that gut feeling and push to try to get the attention of those not yet hearing it – it can be difficult to feel pushy, the perception that it’s just about us or just about money. It’s heartbreaking to get down the road and find I was right. Woulda coulda shoulda.
Sometimes we can’t go back down those roads. Sometimes what’s gone is gone forever. We can give advice, draw roadmaps, repeat endlessly I’ve been there – follow me out. But nothing we can say or do can make anyone take the steps. Everyone has to choose and take those steps themselves. That’s free choice.
And sometimes the choices of others affect us in big ways. While we wait for others, while we wait for someday – life is passing us by. Right now is the moments that shape us. Right now is the time that we miss while waiting on someday. Right now we lose it all if not careful.
Don’t miss life’s moments. It’s happening right now. There may not be a tomorrow if you don’t take care of today.
