Welcome to the Clan Ling Ling

January 7, 2014

A long awaited small ceremony happened this morning in a frigid Illinois courthouse. Nephew Jake and his bride Ling Ling are married, bringing another member to the family.

My sister April’s son, Jake has been studying martial arts in China for several years. Some have seen snippets from him on the blog as well as Faceebook and Twitter. Brother Chris captured the happy (and probably relieved!) couple in -21 degrees.

JakeLingLingCHDefinitely not an impulse move,  it’s been two years in the works. Any marriage takes work but across countries and cultures this was anything but impulse! Today’s ceremony makes things official for a paperwork and legal process that involves much distance, more time, legalities with two countries – so much we take for granted!

Jake posted soon after:

Well, it is done! Ling Ling and I are officially married! It was a long road to get there and literally a very icy road to get to there today, but we have finally got on paper the feeling that we have had for quite a long time now. Thanks to everyone for keeping us in your thoughts!!

So much we take for granted and different perspectives make a big difference. Traveling around the world to another culture and embracing it is something not all can do.
jakelinglingch3A happy day welcoming Ling Ling to the Hoadley ‘clan’ from our scattered points further from Illinois!
All photos here were taken by my brother Chris. So although we didn’t make it home for the big day partly for weather and partly for finances, it’s disappointing but only in not getting to share the big day!
Hopefully there will be many times later (and in warmer weather!) to chat!
While traditional gifts and such aren’t possible right now (flights and such can be restrictive!) may you always find the joy and love from this day, especially through the rough times that come but pass.
 Here’s to the future!

Congrats on a new addition to your family! Your nephew seems to be a fascinating individual. I’m always intrigued by those who have widely experienced different cultures

He set a goal and went after it – for what he wanted to study he found what was deemed the best and made it happen. Now she must, too, learn a totally different culture. Traveling around the world to a strange place – and at a time when the weather here is making news worldwide! – certainly gives her much to consider too! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
