Ag In The Bible – Rain

February 2, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMost people don’t like rain. Sunny days allow doing things we want to do, while rain is an interruption of life. Stormy times, literal or figurative, aren’t always a bad thing.

The farmers and ranchers in Texas and, right now, California, can tell what happens when it’s only sun. No rain to nourish the fields means no grass, no crops, no life.

But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:15

What the value of rain is depends on if you’re planting a crop or planning a picnic. Without rain, however, there’s no nourishment for the land. Without that, there’s no nourishment for us. Water is life, so when the Bible speaks of the water of life it’s with great importance.

When it rains, collect the water. Learn from it. Use it. It’s too valuable to waste, and often that value isn’t seen until there is none.

Thanks Lauren. So many things in the Bible we see differently from an ag standpoint…seemed a natural series. 🙂
