We’re now relying on farm income or odd jobs, so things are incredibly tight financially. Some rabbits will be going to new homes soon, others will be separated, tattooed and grown out for breeding here.
On Monday my friend Megan and I went to pick up four American Chinchillas to add to the doe here, meaning there will be purebred American Chinchillas, we hope, soon! The American Chinchilla is a critically rare breed, slightly smaller than the Giant Chinchilla. There’s two sisters, a daughter and an unrelated buck and the doe already here, allowing two bloodlines.
While on the way we stopped to look at a spot that may be somewhere we will have a gathering. We have wanted to do a self sufficiency workshop as well as retreats, clinics and such – finding the place to do it was the thing.
I think we found that place and it’s not far from the home place here. While it isn’t on our own property, it’s a beautiful place that we can reach many with. Stay tuned for some events, and if interested go to our Facebook page to make sure you’re getting our updates!
Planting and seed starting is another big thing for spring. Some dent (field) corn was planted for chicken feed. We also have tomatoes and several types of peppers started, from sweet peppers to hotter than you can stand peppers! I’m crossing fingers for good germination rates!
If you’re interested in our pepper packs don’t wait! With the addition of the American Chinchillas it’s even more important that we get our megahutch done, as well as a growing pen where the babies can grow in safety with plenty of room (4×10 two story!) and better access to feed. Visit our farm store to see how you can participate!
If it seems quiet here on the blog it’s only temporary time crunch! We’re working on some awesome things…stay tuned!
